Where Peter has a passion for white, so Jerry has a passion for red. So just in time for Christmas Jerry has selected his favourites from our complete collection.
Goedverwacht, Great Expectations Crane Red, Merlot, Robertson, 2018
"An incredible value South African fruit packed Merlot. A soft and smooth cherry, plum and blackcurrant juicy mouthful that is very lightly oaked."
Rocca, Negroamaro, Salento, 2018
"Again, great value, my winning wine from our first tasting. From the heel of Italy, this wine has a complex nose of red fruit and spices. A raspberry dominated mouth, soft tannins and a typical Italian presence."
Domaine du Grand Arc, Corbieres Rouge, Reserve Grand Arc 2018
"This dark inky purple oak-aged powerhouse takes no prisoners. The nose is rich and smoky from the young oak and it is a big spicy, chewy blackcurrant yet well-balanced mouthful. Soft, light tannins complement the concentrated flavours and long finish.
Chateau des Joualles Bordeaux Superieur, Vignobles Freylon 2009
Ch de Joualles comes from on a small estate just south east of the St Emilion region. It's made from 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on chalky clay / limestone soils.
2009 was an excellent year, and this wine shows it. It has a divine nose, slightly spirity, which leads to a warm, balanced and very long palate, with good structure. It's astoundingly good value for a cracking 12 year old claret, drinking beautifully now.
Palliser Estate Pinot Noir, Martinborough, 2015
"This New Zealand Pinot Noir is not typical with its dark pink appearance, rich deep flavour and complex oak-aged depth. However, the characteristic ripe strawberry flavour is still very much in evidence in this long smooth mouthful.
Urbina Reserva Especial Rioja, Bodegas Urbina, 2006
"We have three Riojas available through WMWS, but this one is truly special and worth pushing the boat out for. Mature, complex and smooth with deep strawberries combining with oaked induced leather and cigar box notes. Don’t rush this one. "
