It’s not too late for a summer picnic in West Meon or anywhere in surrounding Villages

For once, my four weather apps appear to be in agreement and are all predicting nice sunny days for the next fortnight. One thing I have missed has been the chance to enjoy outdoor dining. So, I’m thinking of taking advantage of the weather and heading to the beach or the forest. With this in mind, I set off looking for some nice picnic items.

I started out at the village shop, where I purchased some lovely salad items, Lyburn cheeses, smoked trout, a loaf of Libby’s bread, some oatcakes and cheese straws. I added some paper cups, straws and wooden cutlery to my basket. As I was leaving, I noticed some rather attractive bamboo travel mugs for sale at the café. Perfect for a coffee on the go! I had better get one of those and the jars of chutney look too delicious to miss.

I then walked back to Buckingham’s. Damon greeted me like an old friend and when I told him of my picnic idea, he persuaded me to buy pork pies, scotch eggs, some charcuterie and some delicious olives. This picnic is developing into a banquet but it wouldn’t be complete without some of the wonderful Italian pastries from the deli counter.

Now, aside from coffee, what should I drink? The Wine Society has been busy and added some delicious summer wines to its selection. I’m intrigued by the Godello wine from Spain, I think I will get a bottle of that. And the Nebbiolo rosé sounds like a perfect late summer wine.
